Ministry of Family and Human Rights Demands Swift Justice for Assault on Somali Woman
Ministry condemns attack as a violation of Islamic values and Somali society, calls on security forces to arrest perpetrators without delay.

MOGADISHU, June 21, 2026 (SONNA) — The Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned the assault on the honour and dignity of a Somali woman, whose abuse was filmed and widely shared on social media, and has called for the perpetrators to be brought before justice without delay.
"This shameful act is a clear violation of our Islamic religion, the noble customs of Somali society, and the freedom, honour and dignity of every citizen. It is a collective duty for all of us to reject such behaviour and to remove those who committed this grave violation from our society," said Minister of Family and Human Rights Development Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al Makhzoumi.
The Ministry called on security forces to arrest the perpetrators as quickly as possible and to refer the case to the competent judicial authorities, so that Somali society understands that no one who commits such an offence will escape accountability.
The Ministry also appealed directly to the parents, siblings and wider community of those involved, urging anyone who has identified the perpetrators to assist security agencies in locating and apprehending them. The Ministry reminded the public that those who violated the rights of a Somali woman have no right to protection, and that allowing them to remain free would allow both the crime and the injustice to continue spreading within Somali society.
