Interior Minister Urges Agencies to Follow SoDMA’s Lead on Disaster Management

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, accompanied by H.E. State Minister for Interior Sadaad Mohamed Nur Aliyow, today visited the National Emergency Operations Centre, where they were received by H.E. Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mahmoud Maallin Abdulle.
The meeting focused on the country’s preparedness, plans to respond to disaster risks, and forecasts for a potential Super El Niño and its expected impacts.
The Minister also inspected the ongoing activities at the Centre and SoDMA’s level of preparedness for the anticipated effects of Super El Niño. He urged all institutions and stakeholders involved in disaster management to follow SoDMA’s leadership and coordination in disaster response efforts, in order to strengthen cooperation and avoid duplication.
Commissioner Mahmoud briefed the Minister on the Agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen preparedness and prevent potential risks.
Minister Hosh urged the Somali public to remain cautious and vigilant, warning of possible floods and flash floods resulting from Super El Niño and calling for support for vulnerable communities.
