Interior Minister, SoDMA Commissioner Brief Parliament on National Disaster Preparedness

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, met with the Parliamentary Committee on Interior Affairs, Regional Administrations and Security at the House of the People, alongside SoDMA Commissioner H.E. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle.

The meeting focused on national preparedness and the readiness of institutions to respond to drought, flooding and other humanitarian pressures. The Minister briefed the Committee on SoDMA’s preparedness, emergency response capacity and systems for managing humanitarian operations across the country.

The discussions also covered drought conditions, anticipated El Niño-related rainfall and flooding risks, as well as measures being taken to strengthen preparedness before communities are affected.

The engagement highlighted the importance of parliamentary oversight, institutional accountability and early preparedness to ensure national systems are coordinated and capable of protecting communities during emergencies.
