Human Rights Commission and SoDMA Discuss Rights-Based Humanitarian Response

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — H.E. Dr. Maryan Qasim, Chairperson of the National Independent Human Rights Commission (NIHRC), met with H.E. Mahmoud Maallin, Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two institutions.

The discussions focused on Somalia’s humanitarian situation and ways to promote a rights-based approach to disaster preparedness and emergency response, particularly for displaced people, disaster-affected communities and other groups facing heightened vulnerability.

SoDMA provided the NIHRC with updates on its preparedness, emergency response and humanitarian assistance activities.

The two institutions committed to closer coordination and regular information exchange to support more inclusive and effective humanitarian responses that safeguard the rights, dignity and needs of affected communities.
