House of the People Approves New Member of Human Rights Commission

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — Members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia held the second sitting of the eighth session, chaired by Speaker Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jama, assisted by the Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshirow.

The sitting opened with a quorum of 141 lawmakers. The members first voted on a vacant seat on the Independent Human Rights Commission, nominated by the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia.

The lawmakers voted on Mohamed Hassan Nur, who was nominated by the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development to fill the vacant position on the Independent Human Rights Commission. Speaker Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jama announced that 141 lawmakers voted in favor, two voted against, and none abstained.

At the close of the sitting, Speaker Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jama thanked the lawmakers and urged them to focus on advancing key legislation before the House during the eighth session.

Meanwhile, lawmakers were given copies of the draft National Revenue Authority Establishment Law, the draft amendment to the Central Bank of Somalia Law No. 130 of April 20, 2012, and the Protocols Additional to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949.
