Dhusamareb(SONNA)-The National Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has announced the official results of the Galmudug State elections, which were conducted under the "one person, one vote" system, marking a significant milestone in Somalia's transition toward direct elections.
According to the results, the Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP) secured a commanding majority by winning 63 seats in the Galmudug State Parliament. The Tawfiq Party won 12 seats, followed by the San'ad Party with 6 seats, the Karama Party with 5 seats, and the Ramas Party with 1 seat.
A total of 16 political parties participated in the elections, which were held across 11 towns and cities in Galmudug. The commission reported that 197,971 voters cast their ballots, including 191,504 valid votes and 6,470 invalid ballots. The total number of registered voters stood at 247,000.
The election is widely seen as an important step in strengthening Somalia's democratic institutions and advancing the country's broader transition toward a nationwide system of direct, one-person-one-vote elections.
