Former Mogadishu Port Worker Xaawo Axmed Hilowle Honoured as Somalia’s First Female Forklift Driver

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The General Manager of Mogadishu Port, Mohamed Ali Nur Americo, alongside the port’s Deputy General Managers, Dr. Ali Haji and Abdallah Karshe, welcomed Ms. Xaawo Axmed Hilowle, a former employee of Mogadishu Port.

Ms. Xaawo Axmed Hilowle began working at Mogadishu Port in 1975 and remained there until 1982, becoming the first Somali woman to operate a forklift.

Her reception carried memories, appreciation and recognition of a Somali woman who played a historic role in the work and development of Mogadishu Port.
