Deputy Prime Minister Opens Scientific Conference on National Trade Development Roadmap

Mogadishu(SONNA)–Somalia's Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama, on Sunday inaugurated the Scientific Conference and Roadmap Workshop for the National Committee for Trade Development.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that trade facilitation is a fundamental pillar of the country's National Transformation Plan. He noted that improving trade processes is essential for driving economic growth, attracting investment, and enhancing Somalia's commercial competitiveness.

Jama welcomed delegates from member states of the East African Community (EAC), along with other participants, highlighting the importance of harmonizing trade regulations and procedures, strengthening quality infrastructure, and eliminating barriers that slow the movement of goods and increase the cost of trade.

He also pointed out that intra-African trade remains below its full potential, calling for greater priority to be given to expanding trade with neighboring countries. He further urged increased investment in sectors where Somalia enjoys a competitive advantage, particularly the fisheries sector.

In his closing remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that achieving sustainable economic growth depends on empowering the private sector, aligning trade and industrial policies, and increasing the value added to domestic production, ultimately contributing to the development of a competitive and sustainable national economy.
