Deputy Prime Minister Launches WFP Somalia Country Strategic Plan 2026–2030

Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama, on Tuesday launched the World Food Programme (WFP) Somalia Country Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and attended the screening of a documentary highlighting the humanitarian challenges facing communities across the country.

The launch event, organized by the World Food Programme, brought together senior government officials, including the Director General of the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, the Director General of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, senior United Nations officials, members of the Somali diaspora, ambassadors, representatives of international partners, and other distinguished guests.

The new strategy focuses on strengthening food security in both rural and urban communities, promoting self-reliance among populations affected by drought, climate change, and conflict, while supporting long-term resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

Speaking at the event, WFP Country Representative Hamid Nuru, UN Deputy Secretary-General’s representative George Conway, and Jawahir Dahir, representing the Somali Diaspora Committee, commended the strong partnership between the Federal Government and WFP. They emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to address food insecurity, revive agricultural production, and improve the living conditions of vulnerable communities. Participants also viewed a documentary illustrating the impact of recurrent droughts on Somali families and the collaborative efforts underway to address these challenges.

Director General of the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, Abdifatah Abdulkadir Farah (Hared), highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that it aligns with Somalia’s National Transformation Plan and supports the country’s long-term development priorities.

In his remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama officially launched the WFP Somalia Country Strategic Plan 2026–2030, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to working with development partners to strengthen food security, build resilience, and improve the livelihoods of Somali communities.
