Defence Ministry Releases Profile of Slain Senior Al-Shabaab Leader

Mogadishu(SONNA)-MOGADISHU — Somalia's Ministry of Defence on Tuesday released the profile of senior Al-Shabaab leader Maalin Jinow Ibrahim, a day after Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi announced his death.

The ministry said Ibrahim, a member of the group's Shura Council and a senior military adviser, was killed in a precision operation by the Somali National Armed Forces with international partners on 5 July 2026 in Sabiyo village, Lower Shabelle.

According to the ministry, Ibrahim oversaw Al-Shabaab's military operations and illegal taxation networks, describing him as a high-value target within the group.
