Beijing, China (SONNA) – The Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD) hosted the highly anticipated Launch of the Progress Report on the Implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI). The event, held at the World Harmony House, brought together Chinese government officials, international stakeholders, think tanks, and distinguished guests to discuss the progress made in advancing sustainable development through the GDI.

The Somali Ambassador to China, H.E. Mr. Awale Ali Kullane, delivered a compelling speech on the theme “Collaboration and Commitment: Advancing Sustainable Development through the Global Development Initiative.” In his address, Ambassador Kullane expressed his gratitude to CIKD for organizing this important event and commended China and its international partners for their unwavering efforts in promoting sustainable development.

The Progress Report, produced by CIKD in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other line ministries, served as the centerpiece of the event. This comprehensive report meticulously examined the mechanisms, pathways, and substantial measures undertaken in implementing the GDI. It provided valuable insights into the progress achieved so far and offered key policy recommendations for further advancing the Initiative and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ambassador Kullane emphasized the commitment of Somalia to global development efforts and highlighted the importance of international cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. He stated, “The GDI aligns perfectly with our own national development agenda, and we are eager to actively contribute to its implementation.” The Ambassador also emphasized the significance of collaboration, innovation, and inclusiveness in addressing the challenges faced by Somalia and the global community.

The launch event witnessed speeches and discussions from Chinese government officials, international stakeholders, and think tanks. Around 150 representatives from UN agencies, international organizations, embassies, think tanks, media, and Chinese government departments attended the event, reflecting the broad international interest and commitment towards the GDI.

Dr. Zhao Changwen, President of CIKD, expressed his appreciation for the dedication and hard work of his team in organizing the event and producing the Progress Report. He reiterated CIKD’s commitment to promoting international knowledge on development and supporting the implementation of the GDI.
