Mogadishu(SONNA)-Al-Shabaab Militants killed Abdikarim Yusuf Ahmed, one of its commanders together with his bodyguards after fighting between the two sides at Buq Aqable location about 40 kilometers west of Bula-burte town in Hiiraan region overnight, SONNA reported Tuesday.

Somali National News Agency citing Intelligence sources said the conflict was based on some elders and civilians abducted from Beledweyne town in Hiiraan region and the issue was whether to release or not. Commander, Abdikarim wanted the release of the hostages while other group fighters were against that.

The infighting between the two sides resulted in the killing of eight members including the commander, Abdikarim and the situation in Buq-aqable is still tense.

This is not the first time infighting between two wings of the terrorist militant of Al-Shabaab happen in areas under the group’s control.

At least 7 Al-Shabaab militants were killed and others injured after infighting among the Al-Shabaab group at Amara town under Haradhere in Mudug region in central Somalia on December31,2022.

Security sources said at the time that the conflict was between two sides of Al-Shabaab terrorists, one wing intending to surrender to SNA forces near the area and others who were against it.

The Sources added that the fighting between the two sides of the militants took more than an hour

“Signs of defeated group is reported from the terrorists. Conflict, disobedience, not listening to one another and big suspicious among them”, Deputy Minister of Information of Somalia, Abdirahman Yusuf Adala said on Facebook Post.
