Mogadishu, (SONNA) \u2014 The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, accompanied by the Galmudug Drought Committee, on Sunday reached Af-Barwaaqo District in Mudug Region as part of the fifth day of an ongoing drought-response mission across Galmudug State.<\/p>\n

During the visit, the SoDMA Commissioner handed over 100 water tankers to the Af-Barwaaqo District Administration and the district\u2019s Drought Committee to support communities severely affected by the prolonged drought in the district and its surrounding villages.<\/p>\n

While in Af-Barwaaqo, the delegation inspected areas facing acute humanitarian conditions caused by the combined impact of severe drought and climate change. The spread of sand encroachment and poor road infrastructure were cited as major challenges hindering access to sufficient water and the timely delivery of aid to some remote settlements.<\/p>\n

The intervention forms part of SoDMA\u2019s broader emergency response to mitigate the effects of drought on vulnerable populations in Galmudug State, particularly in Mudug Region, where water shortages continue to threaten livelihoods and basic living conditions.<\/p>\n
