Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that T\u00fcrkiye plans to establish a spaceport in Somalia under recently signed agreements, highlighting deepening cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the agreements we have signed, we plan to establish a spaceport in Somalia,\u201d Erdogan said at a joint news conference with Somali President\u00a0Hassan Sheikh Mohamud\u00a0in Istanbul.<\/p>\n

Erdogan said T\u00fcrkiye has added two new deep-sea drilling ships to its energy fleet and plans to begin drilling operations in Somalia in 2026, adding that the activities would make \u201csignificant contributions\u201d to the well-being of the Somali people.<\/p>\n

Erdogan condemns Israel\u2019s recognition of Somaliland<\/h2>\n

Erdogan also condemned Israel\u2019s decision to recognize Somaliland as an independent state, calling the move \u201cillegitimate and unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Israel recognized Somalia\u2019s breakaway region of Somaliland as an independent sovereign state on Friday.<\/p>\n

Erdogan said Somalia has achieved notable improvements in security despite acts of sabotage by those seeking to prevent the country\u2019s recovery.<\/p>\n

Mohamud said Somalia has felt the strong support of T\u00fcrkiye and the Turkish people as it faces threats to its territorial integrity and sovereignty.<\/p>\n

He described Israeli Prime Minister\u00a0Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s stance toward Somalia\u2019s territorial integrity as unacceptable.<\/p>\n

Somaliland has operated as a de facto independent administrative, political and security entity since declaring independence from Somalia in 1991, but it has not received international recognition. Somalia\u2019s federal government considers the region an integral part of its territory and views any direct engagement with Somaliland as a violation of its sovereignty.<\/p>\n

High-level talks in Istanbul<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Erdogan welcomed Mohamud with an official ceremony at the Presidential Dolmabahce Office in Istanbul. The two leaders held a one-on-one meeting before chairing an inter-delegation session.<\/p>\n

Erdogan was accompanied by senior officials, including Foreign Minister\u00a0Hakan Fidan, Energy and Natural Resources Minister\u00a0Alparslan Bayraktar, National Defense Minister\u00a0Yasar Guler, and Industry and Technology Minister\u00a0Mehmet Fatih Kacir.<\/p>\n

Also present were National Intelligence Organization Director\u00a0Ibrahim Kalin, Communications Director\u00a0Burhanettin Duran, Chief Foreign Policy and Security Adviser\u00a0Akif Cagatay Kilic, Defense Industries President\u00a0Haluk Gorgun, and AK Party spokesperson\u00a0Omer Celik.<\/p>\n
