The Commissioner&#8217;s statement honored the memory of those lost in the October 14, 2017, truck bombing while also highlighting the enduring strength and resilience of the Somali people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On this day, we remember the victims of the catastrophic terror attack that struck Mogadishu eight years ago,&#8221; the Commissioner said. &#8220;My heart goes out to every family, every individual, whose lives were forever changed on that dark day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner noted that while the attack showed &#8220;the very worst of humanity,&#8221; it also showcased &#8220;the incredible strength and resilience of our people.&#8221; He spoke about the importance of preparedness, response, and rebuilding, themes central to SoDMA&#8217;s mandate.<\/p>\n<p>He praised Mogadishu as a symbol of recovery, a city that has &#8220;shown the world what it means to rise from the ashes.&#8221; The Commissioner affirmed that SoDMA will continue its tireless efforts to ensure the safety and security of the population and to build a stronger, more resilient Somalia for future generations.<\/p>\n<p>The 2017 attack, which occurred at the Zoobe junction, is considered the deadliest in Somalia&#8217;s history, claiming the lives of more than 500 people and injuring hundreds more.
