Mogadishu, (SONNA) \u2014 The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre welcomed the newly appointed British Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Charles Nicholas King, to his office in Mogadishu. The two officials held in-depth discussions on enhancing cooperation between the two countries, with a focus on security, politics, counter-terrorism, elections, and the acceleration of UK-supported development projects across Somalia.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Barre briefed Ambassador King on the tangible progress Somalia has made, particularly in the fight against Al-Shabaab and the implementation of one-person, one-vote elections. He noted that voter registration is already underway in several parts of the country\u2014an important step toward inclusive and representative governance.<\/p>\n

For his part, Ambassador King welcomed the ongoing dialogue between the Federal Government of Somalia and the National Consultative Council, commending the progress made in state-building, security, and efforts to counter extremist threats. He reaffirmed the United Kingdom\u2019s continued support for Somalia\u2019s stabilization and development agenda.<\/p>\n
