London, (SONNA) \u2013 The Federal Government of Somalia\u2019s Minister of Finance, H.E. Bihi Iman Igeh, has been awarded the prestigious African Finance Minister of the Year 2025 award at a ceremony held in London.<\/p>\n

The award recognizes Minister Bihi\u2019s exceptional leadership during his two-year tenure at the helm of Somalia\u2019s Ministry of Finance. His efforts in advancing public financial reform, spearheading the country\u2019s successful debt relief process in 2023, and modernizing domestic revenue systems were highlighted as key achievements. These reforms led to significant increases in domestic revenue and strengthened Somalia\u2019s financial governance.<\/p>\n

Minister Bihi also played a central role in post-debt-relief planning and positioned Somalia as a model for other nations pursuing financial restructuring. Under his leadership, Somalia avoided new unsustainable debts and instead secured grant-based financing from international financial institutions\u2014a shift that has since inspired similar approaches in other African countries.<\/p>\n

In his acceptance speech, Minister Biixi dedicated the award to the people of Somalia, whom he described as the true drivers of the country\u2019s economic recovery. He also praised Somali entrepreneurs for their resilience and continued investment in the country\u2019s reconstruction despite ongoing challenges.<\/p>\n
