Mogadishu, (SONNA) \u2013 The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, officially launched the National Consultative Conference, urging the Somali people to strengthen national unity and cohesion. He emphasized the importance of avoiding actions or rhetoric that could divide the public.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, President Hassan Sheikh reiterated his government\u2019s commitment to transitioning Somalia to a one-person, one-vote electoral system\u2014a key national objective. He underscored that both the opposition and the ruling party agree that returning to an indirect electoral model, which has been fraught with challenges, is not an option. The President assured that leaders with concerns about the electoral process would be engaged in dialogue to reach a sustainable and inclusive solution.<\/p>\n
President Hassan also acknowledged the international community\u2019s significant support to Somalia, while stressing that the responsibility for national development ultimately rests with the Somali people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe world has delivered on what we requested, but unfinished work remains on our side. It is up to us, the Somali people, to move beyond the past and complete the task of building a fully functioning state,\u201d said the President.<\/p>\n
