The area had served as the primary operational base for the extremist group in northeastern Somalia.<\/p>\n<p>A brief statement issued by the Puntland Ministry of Security confirmed the operation\u2019s success, declaring:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAllahu Akbar. Our forces have taken control of the Miiraale base \u2014 the final refuge of the fleeing ISIS militants in the valley. The last of their strategic wells and infrastructure have been seized. The third phase of the joint air and ground operation has ended in complete victory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fall of Miiraale marks a decisive blow to ISIS in Puntland and signals the near-total dismantling of the group\u2019s presence in the region.
