Precipitation in Banaadir region is marked by a distinct seasonal pattern, with the majority of rainfall occurring from <strong>March<\/strong> to <strong>May<\/strong> (<strong>the Gu\u2019 season<\/strong>) and again in <strong>October<\/strong> to <strong>December<\/strong> (<strong>The Deyr season<\/strong>). The early months of the year, specifically <strong>January<\/strong> and<br \/>\n<strong>February<\/strong>, are characterized by extremely low rainfall, with mere <strong>1mm<\/strong> and <strong>2mm<\/strong> recorded respectively. The rain generally tapers off in <strong>August<\/strong> and <strong>September<\/strong>, dropping to <strong>45mm<\/strong> and <strong>32mm<\/strong> over <strong>16 days<\/strong> and 11 days respectively. As the rainy season draws to a close, <strong>October<\/strong> brings<br \/>\n<strong>40mm<\/strong> of precipitation, followed by a notable increase in <strong>November<\/strong> with <strong>70mm<\/strong> over <strong>13 days.<\/strong> However, <strong>December<\/strong> sees a decline again, with only <strong>13mm<\/strong> falling over <strong>4 days<\/strong>. This pattern underscores the crucial role of seasonal rains in sustaining the region\u2019s ecosystems and agricultural activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNEXPECTED EXTREME HEAVY RAINFALL CAUSING DEVESTATING URBAN FLOOD<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><strong>Underlying Factor of unexpected Flash Floods in Mogadishu City.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The On the 9 of May 2025, there was an unprecedented flash flood event in Banaadir region at large as record-breaking rainfall which continued <strong>2<\/strong> to <strong>10<\/strong> hours that was amounting between <strong>95mm<\/strong> to <strong>120mm<\/strong> which has triggered a devastating flash flood has occurred in Mogadishu as the epicenter of these devastating floods.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sodma.gov.so\/eng\/sodma-the-may-9-2025-flash-flood-incident-in-mogadishu-briefe-report\/map-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5599\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5599\" src=\"https:\/\/sodma.gov.so\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Map-274x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"284\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>SITUATION OVERVIEW.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe heavy rainfall with normal winds, nightlight and thunder has triggering widespread flash floods which swept forcefully across Highways and streets in city. The heavy downpour led into the city devastating consequences, including the displacement of residents, extensive damage to homes, Neighborhoods and IDPs Camp submerged in water, loss of lives, and public infrastructure Destroyed included crucial Highways.<\/p>\n<p>The heavy Rainfall has left with Devastating Resulting to Community in Mogadishu city, many areas inaccessible and severely disrupted transportation and daily life.
