Geneva, Switzerland (SONNA)<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0A delegation from the Federal Government of Somalia has actively participated in the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm High-Level Forum in Geneva, Switzerland\u2014an international gathering dedicated to the responsible management of toxic chemicals and environmentally harmful waste.<\/p>\n

Led by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Senior General Mohamed Jama, the Somali delegation included the country\u2019s Ambassador to Switzerland, Ms. Khadra Ahmed Duule, and senior officials from the ministry. The ministerial-level discussions focused on critical environmental issues such as pollution control, circular economy strategies, and securing financial resources for climate change initiatives.<\/p>\n

Minister Bashir Mohamed Jama highlighted Somalia\u2019s achievements in pollution management, environmental protection, and the development of policies that align with the Ministry\u2019s environmental and climate strategy. He also held key meetings with international organizations including UNEP, FAO, GCF, GEF, and the World Bank to enhance technical and financial cooperation aimed at improving environmental infrastructure and strengthening national capacity to manage hazardous waste.<\/p>\n

Somalia\u2019s participation in this global forum shows the government\u2019s commitment to advancing environmental policies, safeguarding public health, and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources for future generations. Officials view engagement in such international platforms as a strategic step in enhancing Somalia\u2019s global reputation and securing development opportunities for the nation.<\/p>\n
