Washington, D.C. \u2013 SONNA. <\/em><\/strong>A high-level meeting between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs took place during the 2025 IMF Spring Meetings, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral development cooperation.<\/p>\n

The Somali delegation was led by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Bihi Iimaan Ige, and included the Director General of the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, Mr. Mohamed H. Shire. They met with Ms. Elsebeth Krogh S\u00f8ndergaard, Director General for Development Policy at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss aligning Denmark\u2019s development assistance with Somalia\u2019s National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025\u20132029).<\/p>\n

The discussions centered on enhancing collaboration in key areas, including economic reforms and sustainable development. A major focus was Somalia\u2019s ongoing currency reform, a critical pillar of the country\u2019s economic recovery plan. The Somali delegation provided updates on the progress of government-led reforms, emphasizing their importance for long-term stability and growth.<\/p>\n

Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to a partnership built on trust, transparency, and shared development goals. Minister Cige expressed Somalia\u2019s gratitude for Denmark\u2019s unwavering support, stating,\u00a0\u201cDenmark has been a true friend to Somalia, and their continued assistance reflects a strong solidarity with the Somali people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Ms. S\u00f8ndergaard reiterated Denmark\u2019s dedication to Somalia\u2019s development, highlighting the importance of the NTP in driving transformative change.\u00a0\u201cWe remain committed to supporting Somalia\u2019s reform agenda and ensuring our cooperation delivers tangible benefits for its people,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n

The meeting emphasized the strong diplomatic ties between Somalia and Denmark, with both sides pledging to deepen engagement in the coming years. As Somalia advances its economic and governance reforms, international partnerships like this one will play a crucial role in achieving sustainable development.<\/p>\n
