Mogadishu, Somalia (SONNA)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Mr. Mahmoud Adan Geesood, held a high-level meeting with Ambassador Souef Mohamed El-Amine, the Special Representative of the African Union Commission and Head of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSM), to discuss maritime security and the reconstruction of Somalia\u2019s ports.<\/p>\n

The meeting, which took place at the Minister\u2019s office in Mogadishu, focused on the role of the AUSSM mission in Somalia, the challenges of securing the country\u2019s maritime domain, and the ongoing efforts to rebuild and develop Somalia\u2019s port infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Minister Geesood expressed his gratitude to the African Union for its unwavering support in addressing Somalia\u2019s maritime and port-related challenges. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport and the African Union to advance the country\u2019s maritime sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe African Union has played a critical role in supporting Somalia\u2019s efforts to enhance maritime security and develop its ports. We value this partnership and look forward to strengthening our cooperation to achieve our shared goals,\u201d said Minister Geesood.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Souef Mohamed El-Amine praised the Ministry for its dedication to improving Somalia\u2019s maritime infrastructure and security. He reaffirmed the African Union\u2019s commitment to supporting Somalia in achieving its development objectives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe African Union remains steadfast in its support for Somalia\u2019s reconstruction and development. We will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport to ensure the successful implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing maritime security and port development,\u201d said Ambassador El-Amine.<\/p>\n

The discussions also highlighted the strategic importance of Somalia\u2019s ports in boosting the country\u2019s economy and facilitating regional trade. Both parties agreed on the need for sustained efforts to modernize port facilities, improve security measures, and promote sustainable development in the maritime sector.<\/p>\n
