Mogadishu, SONNA \u2013 The Council of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Somalia convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday night to approve the establishment of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. This landmark decision, led by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, aims to strengthen Somalia\u2019s democratic institutions and ensure transparent electoral processes.<\/p>\n
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, a constitutional body, is tasked with overseeing elections at all levels of government and implementing credible and transparent electoral practices. The commission\u2019s mandate is central to Somalia\u2019s efforts to restore and uphold the people\u2019s right to freely elect their leaders through One-Person One-Vote elections nationwide.<\/p>\n
In his address during the meeting, Prime Minister Barre highlighted the Somali government\u2019s commitment to fostering democracy.<\/p>\n
