Mogadishu, SONNA<\/strong> \u2013 Somalia\u2019s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), met with Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu to discuss cooperation under the initiative \u201cAction for a Mine-Free Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the talks, Minister Fartaag congratulated China on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People\u2019s Republic of China and expressed gratitude for China\u2019s continued support in Somalia\u2019s security and peace efforts. He highlighted the severe impact of landmines in Somalia, stressing the need for sustained international assistance.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Wang Yu reaffirmed China\u2019s commitment to bolstering Somalia\u2019s security sector, particularly through support for the Somali Explosives Management Agency (SEMA). He referenced Chinese President Xi Jinping\u2019s keynote speech at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which introduced the \u201cAction for a Mine-Free Africa\u201d initiative aimed at addressing the landmine crisis across the continent.<\/p>\n

As part of this commitment, China has donated 1 million RMB to SEMA, under Somalia\u2019s Ministry of Internal Security, to enhance the country\u2019s capabilities in landmine surveys and risk education.<\/p>\n

Minister Fartaag expressed deep appreciation for China\u2019s support and reiterated Somalia\u2019s commitment to strengthening cooperation with China in promoting peace and reconstruction in the country.<\/p>\n
