On this solemn day, we remember the life and legacy of Prof. Mohamed Osman Jawari, former Speaker of the Somali Federal Parliament, who passed away in Mogadishu on June 28, 2024, at the age of 79.<\/p>\n<p>President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed profound grief over Prof. Jawari\u2019s passing. In a heartfelt statement, he acknowledged the historical significance of the former Speaker\u2019s contributions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInna Lillahi Wa Inna Ileyhi Rajicun.\u201d I extend my deepest condolences to the family, relatives, and the nation of Somalia for the loss of the former Speaker of the Parliament, Mr. Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari. Although his birthplace was Afgoye, he was officially registered in the Burhakaba district of the Bay region. His educational path led him to the Somali National University, where he specialized in Islamic Sharia and Comprehensive Law. Throughout his life, he played a pivotal role in shaping Somalia\u2019s legal and constitutional landscape, dating back to the country\u2019s independence in 1960.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Jawari\u2019s political career spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on Somalia\u2019s governance. He served as a minister during the administration of Siad Barre, a time when Somalia was united under a centralized government. His expertise extended beyond politics; he was also a lawyer and contributed significantly to the development of various Somali constitutions.<\/p>\n<p>In the aftermath of Somalia\u2019s civil war and the collapse of Barre\u2019s regime in 1991, Prof. Jawari continued to work tirelessly for the reconstruction of the nation. He was among the leaders who sacrificed their lives and resources to rebuild government institutions. His commitment to Somalia\u2019s restoration was unwavering, and he played a prominent role in the establishment of democratic processes.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Jawari\u2019s legacy extends beyond borders.
