Deputy Minister of Information, Abd Rahman Yusuf Al-Adalah, addressed this issue during a public forum, expressing concern about the negative impact of inappropriate social media content.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upholding Freedom of Speech and Legal Boundaries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn recent years, freedom of speech has flourished in our country,\u201d stated Al-Adalah. \u201cHowever, this freedom comes with responsibilities. We must distinguish between expressing valid opinions and violating the law.\u201d He emphasized that principles of human rights and freedom of speech are non-negotiable and enshrined in Somalia\u2019s constitution and legal framework.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Adalah highlighted instances where social media users crossed the line, endangering public safety. \u201cWe have seen cases where individuals threatened violence against others, which is unacceptable. The ethics recognized by the international press guide us in protecting freedom of speech while maintaining societal norms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Religious Leaders Speak Out<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Religious leaders, including Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Salad and Sheikh Ali Mohamud Hassan (Ali Wajis), echoed concerns about the misuse of social media. They called on the community to exercise restraint and consider the impact of their words. \u201cOur beliefs, morals, and social unity are essential,\u201d said Sheikh Ali Mohamud Hassan. \u201cIntelligent individuals play a crucial role in safeguarding our Ummah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Police Crackdown on Immoral Behavior<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Banadir region\u2019s general police department emphasized the importance of maintaining social order. \u201cPromoting good morals is part of our government\u2019s mandate,\u201d stated a police spokesperson. \u201cParents share responsibility for their children\u2019s behavior, and we urge cooperation to prevent immoral acts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The crackdown on social media misuse has already led to the arrest of Asmar Daahir Faarah, who allegedly spread indecent content online. Farah is currently in custody at Hodan Police Station and will face legal proceedings. He is the latest in series of arrests following a social media misuse crackdown.<\/p>\n<p>As Somalia grapples with the challenges of social media, authorities remain committed to balancing freedom of expression with societal well-being.
