Nairobi, SONNA – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Nairobi, Kenya on Wednesday to participate in the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), the world’s highest-level environmental forum.<\/p>\n

The president was welcomed by Kenya’s deputy president Rigathi Gachagua in Kenya, defense minister Aden Duale, and other government officials at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.<\/p>\n

The president and his delegation will join global leaders and representatives from civil society, private sector, and academia to discuss urgent environmental issues and actions to address the climate crisis.<\/p>\n

The theme of UNEA-6 is “Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”. The assembly will focus on topics such as biodiversity loss, pollution, waste management, and green recovery.<\/p>\n

President Mohamud is expected to deliver a statement at the opening plenary of the assembly on Thursday, highlighting Somalia’s efforts and challenges in implementing environmental policies and programs.<\/p>\n

The president will also hold bilateral meetings with other heads of state and government, as well as UN officials, to strengthen cooperation and partnership on environmental matters.<\/p>\n

UNEA-6 is running from February 26 to March 1, 2024, at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi.<\/p>\n
