{"id":424257,"date":"2024-02-10T14:33:09","date_gmt":"2024-02-10T11:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/?p=424257"},"modified":"2024-02-10T14:33:09","modified_gmt":"2024-02-10T11:33:09","slug":"somalias-lower-house-of-the-people-approves-joining-the-eac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/somalias-lower-house-of-the-people-approves-joining-the-eac\/","title":{"rendered":"Somalia&#8217;s Lower House of the People approves joining the EAC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mogadishu, (SONNA) &#8211; The Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia&#8217;s Lower House approved the agreement on joining the East African Community (EAC).<\/p>\n<p>The approval of this agreement paves the way for finalizing\u00a0 Somalia&#8217;s bid to join the EAC, after they were given a period of 6 months for the it to be passed by the legislative body of the government.<\/p>\n<p>The committee was assigned to complete the official joining of the EAC and finish their work in making Somalia part of the Community.<\/p>\n<p>Somalia was accepted to join the East African Community in November 24th, 2023 at a meeting held in Arusha, Tanzania.<\/p>\n<p>President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud signed the agreement to join the EAC alongside the current Head of the EAC and the President of South Sudan on the 15th of December, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Somalia becomes the 8th member of the EAC after Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mogadishu, (SONNA) &#8211; The Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia&#8217;s Lower House approved the agreement on joining the East African Community (EAC).
