{"id":423919,"date":"2024-01-28T09:03:51","date_gmt":"2024-01-28T06:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/?p=423919"},"modified":"2024-01-28T09:03:51","modified_gmt":"2024-01-28T06:03:51","slug":"au-welcomes-icj-decision-ordering-israel-to-prevent-genocide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/au-welcomes-icj-decision-ordering-israel-to-prevent-genocide\/","title":{"rendered":"AU welcomes ICJ decision ordering Israel to prevent genocide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hague, (SONNA) &#8211; The chair of the African Union Commission on Saturday welcomed the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering Israel to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Moussa Faki Mahamat, the former prime minister of Chad, said the continental body welcomed \u201cthe urgent provisional measures ordered by the ICJ in the application brought by South Africa\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said the ruling upholds the respect of international law and the need for Israel to imperatively comply with its obligations under the Genocide Convention.<\/p>\n<p>The AU is a continental union made up of 55 member states located on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa took Israel to The Hague-based ICJ on Dec. 29 on charges of genocide against Palestinians, and the case was heard earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the World Court found South Africa&#8217;s claim that Israel is committing genocide plausible.<\/p>\n<p>The court issued an interim order urging Israel to stop obstructing aid deliveries into Gaza and to improve the humanitarian situation.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Source: AA<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hague, (SONNA) &#8211; The chair of the African Union Commission on Saturday welcomed the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering Israel to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza.
