{"id":423224,"date":"2024-01-03T23:37:56","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T20:37:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/?p=423224"},"modified":"2024-01-03T23:37:56","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T20:37:56","slug":"mogadishu-erupts-in-protest-over-ethiopia-somaliland-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/mogadishu-erupts-in-protest-over-ethiopia-somaliland-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Mogadishu erupts in protest over Ethiopia-Somaliland deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mogadishu (SONNA): Thousands of angry Somalis took to the streets of Mogadishu on Wednesday night to protest against a deal between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland, which they see as a threat to their sovereignty and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters chanted slogans and waved flags, expressing their solidarity with the Somali government and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who have rejected the deal as a violation of international law and the African Union charter.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters accused Ethiopia of meddling in Somalia&#8217;s internal affairs and trying to divide the Somali people. They also called for the international community to intervene and stop Ethiopia&#8217;s aggression.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We support our government and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud&#8217;s decision that they will never negotiate on the soil and the presidency of the Somali nation,&#8221; said Asha Hassan Noor, one of the youths who joined the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstration was peaceful and no incidents of violence were reported.
