Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The UK Government has<\/span><\/span> announced a<\/span><\/span> further <\/span><\/span>\u00a35 million <\/span><\/span>in <\/span><\/span>funding <\/span><\/span>for<\/span><\/span> the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) Trust Fund<\/span><\/span> to support Somali<\/span><\/span>a\u2019s Security Forces <\/span><\/span>in a meeting between Somalia\u2019s National Security Advisor, <\/span><\/span>Hussein<\/span><\/span> Sheikh <\/span><\/span>Ali,<\/span><\/span> and the UK\u2019s Deputy National Security Adviser for International Affairs, Dame Sarah MacIntosh<\/span><\/span> during her<\/span><\/span> visit to Somalia <\/span><\/span>last week.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The funding builds on the UK\u2019s substantial<\/span><\/span> contributions <\/span><\/span>to date <\/span><\/span>through the UNSOS Trust Fund, <\/span><\/span>which provides non-lethal logistical support to the SSF, <\/span><\/span>which will <\/span><\/span>include food, shelter and <\/span><\/span>lifesaving<\/span><\/span> medevac support. <\/span><\/span>UK funding<\/span><\/span> will provide ongoing<\/span><\/span> support to the operations against al-Shabaab<\/span><\/span>, but also assist Somalia Security Forces to build capacity as they take on greater responsibility for security. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe UK and Somalia security partnership is important for bringing stability and security to Somalia and the region\u201d Deputy National Security <\/span>Adviser,<\/span> Dame Sarah MacIntosh, said<\/span>, .<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The UK will continue to support Somali-led efforts to combat terrorism and restore stability in recaptured areas of the country.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
