Week-Maarow, SONNA – Over 50 Al-Shabaab militants, including leaders, were killed in the Lower Juba region during a joint operation by security forces and local forces. Among those killed was the head of finance in the Weel-Maarow area, who was targeted in a planned operation by Danab commandos and residents of Weel-Maarow village, located approximately 45km northeast of Afmadow town. The army also captured several militiamen, weapons, and vehicles. State Media confirmed the operation and received graphic photos.<\/p>\n
This latest operation follows a recent successful aerial and ground attack by the Somali National Army (SNA) with international support in Welmaro, a town 40 kilometers away from Afmadow in the Lower Juba region of Somalia. The SNA and its international partners have been intensifying their operations against Al-Shabaab in recent months, in an effort to eradicate the group.<\/p>\n
