{"id":417291,"date":"2023-05-28T07:17:29","date_gmt":"2023-05-28T04:17:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/?p=417291"},"modified":"2023-05-28T14:07:18","modified_gmt":"2023-05-28T11:07:18","slug":"somali-leaders-reach-agreement-over-the-procedure-of-next-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/somali-leaders-reach-agreement-over-the-procedure-of-next-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Somali leaders reach agreement over the procedure of next election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AsMogadishu, (SONNA) &#8211; A historic election agreements have been reached by the Political leaders in Somalia on May 27, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>There will be one person, one vote election from next year, and the elections will take place once every five years.<\/p>\n<p>In this new agreement, there will be single constituency, proportional representation closed list electoral system.<\/p>\n<p>Somali leaders have agreed to abolish the Premier post which was a closed election (parliament electing the presidents). There will be a Presidential system. President and Vice President will be elected directly by the people on a single ticket. (Current President\u2019s term ends May 2026).<\/p>\n<p>The country will only have two political parties which will compete democratically for the people\u2019s vote.<\/p>\n<p>Unified election schedule for regional elections. First popular local council elections nationwide including Banadir (Mogadishu) will take place on June 30, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Regional parliaments and regional leadership elections to take place on Nov
