\nTransition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) Hillary Sao Kanu yesterday visited the
\nJazeera basecamp to assess the welfare of officers serving in the Mission\u2019s Formed
\nPolice Units.<\/p>\n
Kanu who was accompanied by senior officers from the Mission Headquarters
\ntoured the camp and held discussions with the Nigerian and Ugandan Formed Police
\nUnits led by their contingent Commanders, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ibrahim
\nMohamed and SP Juventine Euku.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are here to ensure that there is peace in Somalia and that peace will only come
\nif we work together as a team to achieve ATMIS\u2019 mandate,\u201d said the Police
\nCommissioner.<\/p>\n
The visit comes a day after she concluded a three-day tour of Jubaland, Hirshabele
\nand Southwest states to familiarize herself with ongoing police programs in the
\nsectors.<\/p>\n
Kanu, who holds the rank of Commissioner of Police, assured the officers of support
\nfrom the ATMIS senior leadership to ensure their stay in Somalia is not only
\nmeaningful but also successful.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the leadership team, we will do our best to ensure that your stay here is
\nmeaningful and also provide the needful to enable you do your jobs,\u201d she told the
\nofficers.<\/p>\n
The delegation was also briefed on the operations conducted by the two units,
\nachievements made and the challenges officers face while executing their duties.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to thank you for your resilience, your professionalism, your effort and
\npatience and despite all the challenges, you are striving to make sure that the
\nmandate is implemented,\u201d CP Kanu observed.<\/p>\n
The Police Commissioner who was visiting the basecamp for the first time since
\nassuming office early this month, hailed the cordial relationship between the Nigerian
\nand Ugandan Formed Police Units and thanked them for the selfless service.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have been working together to ensure Somalia achieves peace. It is not an
\neasy task but I believe we will succeed,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
CP Kanu was accompanied by the new ATMIS Police Operations and FPU
\nCoordinator, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ahmed Lateef and the ATMIS
\nPolice Training and Development Coordinator, ACP Samuel Asiedu Okanta.<\/p>\n
