THE HAGUE – The International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ
\nof the United Nations, will hold public hearings in the case concerning Maritime Delimitation in the
\nIndian Ocean (Somalia v. Kenya) from Monday 15 to Wednesday 24 March 2021, at the Peace
\nPalace in The Hague, the seat of the Court.
\nIn view of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the hearings will be held in hybrid format. Some
\nMembers of the Court will attend the oral proceedings in person in the Great Hall of Justice while
\nothers will participate remotely by video link. Representatives of the Parties to the case will
\nparticipate either in person or by video link.
\nGuidelines for the Parties on the organization of hearings by video link can be found on the
\nCourt\u2019s website.
\nMembers of the diplomatic corps, the media and the public will be able to follow the hearings
\nthrough a live webcast on the Court\u2019s website, as well as on UN Web TV, the United Nations online
\ntelevision channel.

\nIt was established by the United Nations Charter in June 1945 and began its activities in April 1946.
\nThe Court is composed of 15 judges elected for a nine-year term by the General Assembly and the
\nSecurity Council of the United Nations. The seat of the Court is at the Peace Palace in The Hague
\n(Netherlands). The Court has a twofold role: first, to settle, in accordance with international law,
