{"id":402783,"date":"2021-02-03T09:21:51","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T06:21:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/?p=402783"},"modified":"2021-02-03T09:21:51","modified_gmt":"2021-02-03T06:21:51","slug":"eu-launches-over-14m-new-projects-in-somalia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/eu-launches-over-14m-new-projects-in-somalia\/","title":{"rendered":"EU launches over $14M new projects in Somalia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mogadishu <strong>(SONNA)<\/strong>-The EU on Tuesday launched three new projects worth \u20ac11.8 million ($14.3 million) to support the private sector in Somalia.<\/p>\n<p>The projects will significantly step up the EU\u2019s engagement in Somalia as the new partnership will enable financial institutions to successfully provide relevant financing to local small- and medium-sized enterprises while supporting the investment climate, according to a statement by the EU.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLaunching three private sector projects (11.8 million euro), comprising revolving funds, guarantees for loans, technical assistance, and collaboration to improve the business climate that may attract European investors to Somalia. Stability brings prosperity,\u201d EU ambassador to Somalia Nicolas Berlanga said on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>The projects will give micro, small, and medium businesses access to credit and improve regulations that will boost the private sector in the Horn of Africa country, he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome the continued support from the EU to achieve a stronger and more prosperous Somalia,\u201d Somali Planning Minister Gamal Hassan said at the launching ceremony in the capital Mogadishu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur government has heavily invested in the sector with the aim of creating employment and sustainably growing the economy.
