MOSCOW:<\/strong> The Japanese government<\/a>\u00a0has decided to extend its military anti-piracy mission off\u00a0Somalia<\/a>‘s coast by another year,\u00a0media<\/a>\u00a0reported on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force has been engaged in the mission to protect commercial ships passing along the Horn of\u00a0Africa<\/a>\u00a0since 2009. The current mission will expire on\u00a0November<\/a>\u00a019.<\/p>\n

At a\u00a0cabinet<\/a>\u00a0meeting on Tuesday, the Japanese leadership also decided to increase the number of personnel involved in the mission, the NHK broadcaster said.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Japanese\u00a0government<\/a>\u00a0approved the extension of the participation of its Ground Self-Defense Force personnel in a multinational peacekeeping mission in the Sinai Peninsula in\u00a0Egypt<\/a>\u00a0for another year amid the active presence of violent extremists, who frequently conduct attacks against\u00a0police<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0army<\/a>\u00a0on the peninsula.<\/p>\n
