{"id":401527,"date":"2020-11-03T08:33:34","date_gmt":"2020-11-03T05:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/?p=401527"},"modified":"2020-11-03T08:33:34","modified_gmt":"2020-11-03T05:33:34","slug":"un-concerned-over-possible-war-crimes-in-karabakh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/un-concerned-over-possible-war-crimes-in-karabakh\/","title":{"rendered":"UN concerned over possible war crimes in Karabakh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mogadishu<strong> (SONNA)-<\/strong>The UN rights chief said Monday that indiscriminate attacks on civilian settlements amid fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region could amount to war crimes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The parties to the conflict are obliged to effectively, promptly, thoroughly and impartially investigate such violations and to prosecute those alleged to have committed them,&#8221; said United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.<\/p>\n<p>Bachelet said the attacks carried out indiscriminately against densely populated areas in and around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone are against international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;International humanitarian law cannot be clearer,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p>Since clashes broke out on Sept. 27, Armenia has repeatedly attacked Azerbaijani civilians and forces, even violating three humanitarian cease-fire agreements since Oct. 10.<\/p>\n<p>To date, at least 91 civilians, including 11 children and 27 women, have been killed in Armenia&#8217;s attacks, according to Azerbaijan&#8217;s Chief Prosecutor&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n<p>About 400 people have also been injured in the attacks, including at least 14 infants, 36 children and 101 women.<\/p>\n<p>At least 2,442 homes, 92 apartment buildings and 428 public buildings have also been damaged and become unusable.<\/p>\n<p>Relations between the two former Soviet republics have been tense since 1991 when the Armenian military occupied Upper Karabakh, or Nagorno-Karabakh, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan, and seven adjacent regions.<\/p>\n<p>Four UN Security Council resolutions and two from the UN General Assembly as well as international organizations demand the &#8220;immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of the occupying forces&#8221; from the occupied Azerbaijani territory.<\/p>\n<p>@<strong>AA<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mogadishu (SONNA)-The UN rights chief said Monday that indiscriminate attacks on civilian settlements amid fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region could amount to war crimes. &#8220;The parties to the conflict are obliged to effectively, promptly, thoroughly and impartially investigate such violations and to prosecute those alleged to have committed them,&#8221; said [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":401528,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"content-type":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[6,78],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-401527","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"category-world"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/401527","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=401527"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/401527\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":401529,"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/401527\/revisions\/401529"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/401528"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=401527"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=401527"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/sonna.so\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=401527"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
