MECCA (SONNA)-<\/b>\u00a0Hundreds thousands of\u00a0Muslims across the world have flocked\u00a0to Mecca, where\u00a0Masjid al-Haram, the most sacred\u00a0site in Islam\u00a0exists, to perform their Hajj pilgrimage.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first group departed from Turkey on September 12 for Mecca and Medina and many other groups are continuing\u00a0to come to the holy lands.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mecca is busy in recent days\u00a0because Hajj season is approaching\u00a0and\u00a0construction work around the grand mosque in Mecca\u00a0makes the land much more crowded.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia is expected to receive fewer pilgrims this year as it plans to cut of foreign pilgrims by 20 per cent and domestic pilgrims by 50 per cent due to the expansion work at the grand mosque in Mecca.<\/span><\/p>\n

The expected number of pilgrims is 3 million this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Hajj is an\u00a0Islamic\u00a0pilgrimage to\u00a0Mecca\u00a0and the largest gathering of\u00a0Muslim\u00a0people in the world every year.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the five pillars of Islam\u00a0requires every able bodied\u00a0Muslim to perform the\u00a0Hajj\u00a0pilgrimage at least once in his or her lifetime if he or she\u00a0can afford to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n

Multiple parts of the Hajj require pilgrims to make\u00a0Tawaf, the\u00a0circumambulation\u00a0seven times around the Kaaba in a counter-clockwise direction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
